SafeSource test kits are available for your convenience at the Perry, Athens and Morgan County Health Departments.
What types of water tests do you offer?
Total Coliform, E. coli, nitrates, chlorine, lead, copper, iron, manganese and arsenic are offered Ohio EPA-certified tests. Other informational tests offered are pH and hardness.
Are any of your products or services HSA eligible?
YES! As recommended by the CDC and EPA, a yearly Coliform, nitrate and metals test for your private water source is generally an eligible HSA expenditure. In addition, most products sold here at SafeSource are also eligible. Check with your specific plan for details.
How do I know if my home or business needs water testing?
Yearly testing is recommended if you use a private water source such as a well, spring or cistern. However, if you notice changes in taste or odor, have new plumbing, or experience health symptoms possibly linked to water quality it is important to have your water tested as soon as possible.
What if I don't drink my water?
Bathing, brushing your teeth, washing dishes and other daily activities still expose you to the contaminants in water. Also, please remember to protect children and pets.
What contaminants are most common in SE Ohio water?
Bacteria, nitrates, lead, iron, and agricultural runoff chemicals are most frequently detected in local water supplies.
What is the test turn around time?
Bacteria, nitrates, pH and chlorine test results are available in 1-2 days. Metals testing takes 7-10 days.
Are your testing methods certified and compliant with Ohio regulations?
Yes, our tests follow EPA and Ohio Department of Health guidelines and use certified laboratory methods.
Who will receive my test results?
Only you and anyone you ask us to share the results with. For example, if the test is required for a loan or certification process we will copy the results to the individual requiring them.
How will I receive my test results?
Results are sent via email, phone, or printed mail—depending on your preference.
What should I do if my water test shows contamination?
Contact the health department or a water treatment company for recommendations depending on your water source.
Do you offer onsite sampling or only laboratory drop-off?
Currently we do not offer onsite sampling but we will provide you with a kit and detailed instructions for collecting your sample.
